In Darwin’s Garden is a large-scale augmented reality (AR) artwork by Chris Meigh-Andrews and myself using AR to view an array of digital images sited within a physical framework. This was an early adaptation of AR and I explored using phones, tablets and AR glasses during its development. I also had to be responsive to the rapidly changing software which meant the remediation of the artwork for each iteration.

The artwork was at a scale that when presented with the physical framework users would move through and around the digital element. Providing the viewer with different tools I observed the differences in embodied engagement with this AR environment and began to discuss this further as augmented reality developed into mixed reality possibilities.
These links show some of those exhibitions and papers as well as a more detailed discussion of the original form for the artwork.
